Not Just a Baby: Releasing Trauma from the Womb to Birth Babies, Visions, Creativity and Blissness

A Somatic Approach for Doulas, Therapists and Practitioners

Lexi Dells - School of Trauma Release, Cornwall

If your in this space, it’s highly likely to know that the womb is not just a space for reproduction. It is a sensitive and intelligent centre, deeply connected to the nervous system, hormones, safety, creativity, and our sense of identity.

In somatic and energetic traditions, the womb has long been recognised as a place of creation. This includes the birth of children, but also the birth of ideas, visions, projects, businesses (blissnesses), and new ways of being in the world. In trauma release kinesiology roots, they say that the dreaming body is also located in this area of the body.

Trauma from this life, intergenerational, and past life experiences such as fertility treatment, conception, birth, miscarriage, abortion, gynaecological trauma, and sexual violations often remain stored in the body. Not always as clear memories, but as tension, fear, numbness, or emotional blocks. These experiences can impact not just reproductive health, but the capacity to create, dream, and move forward in life.

When the Body Remembers

As a trauma release practitioner, I’ve worked with many clients whose bodies hold unspoken stories - particularly around birth or the medical system or a disconnect from their bodies and particularly this area. I’ve also seen how powerful it is when we gently return to the womb space to listen, reconnect, and release what the body is still carrying. Not just transformation on the inside, but also in our outer lives too.

Clients often describe feeling stuck or fearful, even if the conscious mind says everything is fine. They may be preparing for birth, navigating fertility, or trying to bring a project to life - but something in the body doesn’t feel safe enough to move forward.

Common signs of unresolved trauma in the womb space include:
• Disconnection from the lower belly or pelvic area
• Chronic tension in the hips or pelvic floor
• Emotional flatness or fatigue after birth
• Resistance or shutdown when thinking about labour
• Creative blocks or inability to bring ideas into form

These are not signs of failure. They are signs the nervous system is still protecting.

The Role of the Nervous System and The Vagus Nerve

The womb is highly responsive to the autonomic nervous system. When the body remains in fight, flight or freeze, cortisol levels stay elevated and the vagus nerve does not receive the signal that it’s safe to soften or open.

Over time, this can affect:
• Hormonal and menstrual cycles
• Fertility and pregnancy
• Birth experience and recovery
• Emotional regulation and creative flow

Through trauma-informed somatic tools, the nervous system can gradually reorient toward safety. When the body feels safe, it becomes possible to move forward - physically, emotionally, and creatively.

What Is Trauma Release Kinesiology?

At the School of Trauma Release, we teach an approach called Trauma Release Kinesiology, which combines:
• Somatic trauma education
• Vagus nerve regulation
• Kinesiology-based muscle checking
• Gentle body-based release techniques

This method does not require retelling traumatic stories. Instead, the body guides the process. Using subtle muscle checking and body-based protocols, we identify where stress is stored and what the nervous system is ready to release.

Sessions include simple self-regulation tools, massage points, and holding techniques to support the nervous system and it’s in our LEVEL 2 TRAINING that we support practitioners with body oriented tools to reconnect clients the womb space.

A Personal Note on the Womb as the Dreaming Body

In my own life, working with the womb has been transformational. I’ve released trauma not only from this life, but from intergenerational and ancestral experiences.

In kinesiology, the womb is seen as the dreaming body - the centre where ideas gestate and take shape. Before this work, I could see my visions clearly, but they would not land. My mind said yes. My soul said yes. But my body could not move.

Once I began working somatically with the womb, everything changed. Projects flowed. Creative energy returned. It felt like a reconnection with life itself - and many of my clients report the same.

Before and After Birth

This work can be helpful both before and after birth.

Before Birth:
• Fear of labour or birth trauma
• Ancestral birth patterns
• Pelvic disconnection or tightness
• Anxiety about control or safety

After Birth:
• Emotional flatness or fatigue
• Disconnection from baby or body
• Unexpected medical interventions
• Difficulty processing the birth story

It can also support clients who are birthing a new identity, business, or phase of life.

Training, Sessions and Resources

This work does not replace talking therapy or doula care - it complements it. Many professionals integrate it into coaching, counselling, midwifery, and holistic work.

We offer:
• Online toolkits for self-led practice
• One-to-one sessions with some of our level 2 practitioners
• Trauma-informed CPD for birthworkers, therapists, and practitioners
• A practitioner directory for client referrals

Training includes nervous system safety, somatic bodywork, vagus nerve tools, and optional kinesiology techniques - grounded in ethics and practitioner care.

In Summary

The womb is not only a place of birth - it is a place of power, vision, and healing.

Trauma Release Kinesiology offers a body-led way to gently release stored trauma, restore connection, and support creativity, fertility, and emotional wellbeing.

Whether you are birthing a baby, a book, a business, or a new version of yourself - this work meets you where you are and helps you move forward, safely and somatically.
